FIRST AID FOR SPORTS CLUB MEMBERS 2010
St John Ambulance, after discussion with the District Sports Council has changed the structure of the first aid course it provides for the Sports Council. Previously this was only a short one session awareness course at the end of which those taking part received an attendance certificate. This course was not intended to be (nor was it accepted as) a satisfactory qualification by many governing bodies of sport.
We now offer two different courses run by St John Ambulance:
A. An Emergency Life Support for All Ages Course which is spread over two 2 hour sessions on successive weekday evenings at the end of which those successfully completing the course will be given a Course Certificate (valid for 3 years). This course is designed to give any club member sufficient first aid knowledge about the simple things that can be done in a medical emergency – it is not designed for coaches or those requiring full first aid training.
B. An Emergency Life Support (Sport) full one day course which will give more detailed first aid training. For those successfully completing the course, there will be a certificate (valid for 3 years) that should, it is understood, be accepted by sports governing bodies under their requirements for coaches and other officials.
One of each of these courses was successfully run earlier in the year. A second of each type will be run in October.
An Emergency Life Support for All Ages course
Tuesday and Wednesday, 12/13 October. 7.30pm to 9.30pm
St John Ambulance, Unit E, Kingsfield Business Centre, Philanthropic Road, Redhill, RH1 4DP.
This course will be subsidised as usual by the Sports Council, leaving the charge for each individual who is a member of a club affiliated to the District Sports Council at £15.
An Emergency Life Support (Sport) course
Sunday 3 October; 9.30am to 4.30pm
St John Ambulance, Unit E, Kingsfield Business Centre, Philanthropic Rd, Redhill, RH1 4DP.
The charge for a member of a club affiliated to the District Sports Council will be £40.
Application forms for either course may be obtained from Club Secretaries or by email to rbsport@talktalk.net

SURREY C RUGBY FESTIVAL – 18TH APRIL 2010
Old Reigatians RFC are looking forward to hosting their first Surrey Festival at their Park Lane ground for Minis - age groups U7s – U12s. The C Festival is due to take place on Sunday April 18th from 10am to 4pm, sponsored by Savills, Estate Agents.
93 squads have so far been entered with some 1,300 players from 18 RFU clubs.
ORRFC Chairman of Minis and Juniors, Hugh Serjeant, said:
"We are all very excited about hosting such an important event. This festival focuses on the players outside A and B squads. Many of these players will come through to be strong rugby players as they mature and they all deserve the opportunity to represent their clubs at a Surrey Festival.
We are striving to make it as inclusive as possible and are encouraging as many squads (of C standard) from as many clubs as possible. Indeed, some of the larger clubs are sending more than one squad per age group. This event is truly about grass roots rugby and sowing the seeds of a lifetime love of the game among the 7-12 age groups. Although as competitive as anyone else, I do believe that at the Minis level we have to be focusing on enjoyment of the game and not trophy hunting and prioritising having a thriving and well-run C Festival is very much reflective of this ethos.
We hope this will be the first of many successful Surrey Festivals at Old Reigatians."
At the conclusion of the games, there will be an official awards ceremony. There will also be a BBQ, food tents, band, bouncy castle, face painting, fire engine, kit stalls (RAM/Simply Sports), beer tents.
