Grants for Individuals and Clubs
The District Sports Council is responsible for allocating and distributing funds made available by the Borough Council either to individuals or to sports clubs. A total of £7,220 was paid out in the year ended 30th September 2008; £3,100 was awarded to 12 individual applicants in sports including athletics, badminton, fencing, heptathlon, hockey, roller skating, rugby, taekwondo and tennis; £4,120 was paid out to 13 clubs for various improvements to facilities, disabled equipment and towards the cost of introduction days for newcomers.
In each year there will be two rounds of grant allocations. The closing date for applications for the first round will be 15th March and for the second 15th September. Grants awarded will be paid in April and October.
Individuals
Individuals (with emphasis on the young) who are resident in the Borough (or belong to a sports club affiliated to the District Sports Council) and have reached a level higher than club level (or who, in the opinion of suitably qualified referees, may be expected so to do) may apply for grants to help towards the costs of special equipment, extra coaching, travelling or other costs associated with improving their performance. Grants do not normally exceed £350.

Clubs
Clubs located in the Borough may apply for grants towards the cost of improving their facilities, for equipment to extend the range of services offered (especially to the disabled) and to organise local tournaments to keep down the cost of entry (particularly, but not specifically, for youth participation). Grants do not normally exceed £500.

GRANTS FOR INDIVIDUALS AND CLUBS
SECOND 2009 ROUND
The Reigate and Banstead District Sports Council has now approved the second series of grants for 2009 to clubs and individuals for sport related costs. Subject to completion of the formalities, these awards amount to £2,050 making a total of £6,076 for the year.
Of the second series, £1,800 was allocated to 5 juniors (taekwondo, fencing, swimming, golf and tennis) and 1 ‘vet’ (athletics). £250 was granted to a basketball club for additional equipment etc.
FURTHER GRANTS
The first 2010 round of grant awards is now open. Applications must be submitted by 31st March and awards will be decided in April. The Sports Council will consider earlier any grants that need an urgent response.

GRANTS - FIRST 2009 ROUND
The Reigate and Banstead District Sports Council has recently completed the distribution of its first 2009 round of grants to sports clubs and to individuals for sport related costs. A total of £4,026 was paid out.
Of this sum, £3,350 was awarded to 12 individuals resident in the Borough (with sums ranging between £200 and £300) and £676 was granted to 3 sports clubs in the Borough.
10 of the recipients of individual awards were aged between 10 and 17 and the others were 21 and 28 years old. Sports covered included Athletics, Croquet, Fencing, Heptathlon, Ice Hockey, Modern Pentathlon and Triathlon, Roller Hockey, Swimming, Taekwondo and Windsurfing.
They include:
a 16 year old youth from Reigate who is a member of the Surrey County Athletics squad;
an England player (28) from Redhill who played in the 2009 World Croquet Championships in Florida;
a member of the England U11 Fencing team from Reigate;
a young lady from Meadvale ranked 7th in UK Heptathlon U17’s;
a 12 year old Redhill girl selected for the South of England Ice Hockey team;
a 13 year old girl from Reigate who competes at SE England level Modern Pentathlon;
a 10 year old Reigate girl who won the 2008 Girls National Triathlon;
a Redhill boy selected in 2008-9 to represent Great Britain in Roller Hockey 14 & under;
a 21 year old swimmer from Redhill who competed at the Surrey Championships;
a 17 year old Horley young lady who won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal in 3 sections of the 2009 Taekwondo National Championships and now selected to represent Great Britain at the European and World Championships;
a 10 year old Tadworth boy who was UK Windsurfing Association’s inland Series 4.5 meter 2008 Champion;
a 16 year old Meadvale youth selected for UK National Windsurfing U19 squad.
Club awards were:
£400 was awarded to Redhill Cycling Club for their new U18’s section towards costs of specialised clothing and costs of transport to track and other racing venues in the South East.
£100 was granted to Surrey Downs Golf Academy to assist with the purchase of a Tri-Golf Set in order to encourage young children to play golf. Tri-Golf is promoted by the Golf Foundation for children in Primary, Infant and Junior schools.
£176 was awarded to Reigate Priory Athletic Club for new hurdles for junior training.
